DeVell Mitchell, Vietnam Vet, Car Salesman, Dies at 68
Mitchell served in the Navy, and worked at Main Street Ford in Waltham for many years. He lived in Newton for the past 20 years.

DeVell Mitchell of West Newton passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 12, with his loving family by his side in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston at the age of 68.
Born on October 1, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois; son of the late Rogers Mitchell and Elizabeth Snow. DeVell was raised by his late Aunt Mrs. Juanita Jones in Robbins, Illinois where he attended High School and furthered his education at Loyola University of Chicago majoring in Mechanical Drafting.

During his first semester in college, however, DeVell enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War.
Following the war, he settled in Massachusetts and moved to the Brighton section of Boston for several years before moving to Newton 20 years ago.

DeVell was employed in the automobile industry throughout his life. He was employed in Sales at Main Street Ford in Waltham for most of his career and for several years at Framingham Ford. He had a passion for cars especially for his 1990 Ford Mustang 5.0, which he and his son βsouped up.β He enjoyed watching NASCAR and Drag Racing. An avid tennis player, he followed many of the professional matches.
He is survived by his beloved wife Angela Philactos, with whom he shared 36 beautiful years together, his devoted & loving son Avery DeVell Mitchell of Newton, his dear siblings Juanita Conley of North Carolina, Rita Chriss and Christella Jones both of Illinois and Dannie Mitchell of Las Vegas, NV, and his very close friend Michael Tolliver. In addition he is survived by many nieces & nephews.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of DeVellβs Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Monday morning Sept. 21st at 10:00 a.m. followed by his burial with United States Navy Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans National Cemetery, MacArthur Blvd. (Rte.#28) at Otis A.F.B. in Bourne at 2:00 pm. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday Sept. 20th from 2 β 6 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
