Families Have A Blast At Healthy Kids Day

The West Suburban YMCA's free event provides exercise, entertainment, and fun for families after a tough year

The West Suburban YMCA hosted its annual Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, June 12, 2021. Over 120 families and nearly 200 kids attended the free community event. Attendees participated in sun safety activities, tie-dye stations, obstacle courses, Gaga ball, and enjoyed entertainment from Curious Creatures and magician Steve Charette. Children received t-shirts for tie-dying and gift cards to Farina’s Bicycles in Watertown, made possible by a generous donation from the Newton Elks.

Healthy Kids Day® is part of a national YMCA initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families and inspire them to keep their minds and bodies active as the school year winds down and summer begins.

The West Suburban YMCA's event, typically held in late April, was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was wonderful to see so many families outside enjoying the weather and being active together," says Kimberly Benzan, Chief Operating Officer at the West Suburban YMCA. "It was obvious that families needed this after a tough year."
