Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 11
A craft fair, an author event and a discussion about the old Parks and Recreation Building.

1.Β What to do with the old Parks and Recreation building?Β The Board of Aldermen's Real Property and Reuse Committee will meet tonight to continue discussion on theΒ potential uses for the former Parks and Recreation Building at 70 Crescent Street. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in room 209 atΒ City Hall.
2. Craft fair. TheΒ Hills & Falls Nursery School will be hosting a Guatemalan craft sale today on behalf of Mil Milagros, a non-profit working to benefit the school children of Guatemala. Crafts will be sold on behalf of Guatemalan artisans and all profitsΒ will go directly to buy school supplies, hygiene products, and the school children's daily hot lunch. The fair will be held in St. Mary's Church Parish Hall, just to the left of Hills and Falls entrance, from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.
3. Tertulia at Newton South -- live! Newton South High School's annual Tertulia event will be streamed live on the school's website today. The day-long event (7:40 a.m. - 2:35 p.m.) showcases performing arts and the many talents of Newton South students.Β

4. Author talk. The Newton Free Library will host Newton author Jim O'Connell tonight for a talk on his latest book, "The Hub's Metropolis:Β Greater Bostonβs Suburban Development from Railroad Suburbs to Smart Growth." The program starts at 7:30 p.m. and will include a book signing at the end of the discussion.
5. Tickets are on sale...For the Newton Family Singers concert on May 5 at Memorial-Spaulding Elementary School. The spring concert, titled "The Tide is High," features songs inspired by water. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children and can be purchased online.
