Five Things You Need to Know Today: April 9
The Indoor Farmers' Market is open, the library's poetry series is back and the Newton-Needham Chamber will host an informative event for Newton restaurants.

1. "Ask Newton's Health Inspectors."Β Newton Health and Human Services Commissioner Dori Zaleznik and the city's four health inspectors will for restaurants. The event will be held at O'Hara's in Newton Highlands from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
2. Indoor farmers' market. The Newton Indoor Farmers' Market will set up today from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hyde Community Center. Stop by and browse products like fresh fish, produce, cheese, spices and more.Β
3. School Committee passes budget. The Newton School Committee voted 8-1 last night to approve the fiscal 2014 $187.7 million budget. Ward 1 committee member Geoff Epstein was the only dissenting vote. The budget will head to the Board of Aldermen's Programs & Services Committee this Wednesday, April 10.

4. Poetry series.Β TheΒ Newton Free Library's Poetry Series will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the Druker Auditorium.Β The poetry series meets once a month from September-November and also February-April. Each month three, prominent, published poets give readings. An open mic follows with a limit of one poem per person.Β This month,Β Gail Mazur, Mark Pawlak and Doug Holder will give readings in honor of National Poetry Month. 5. Voter registration. A reminder that the deadline to register to vote for the April 30 special Senate primary is tomorrow, April 10. You can register at City Hall in the Newton Elections Commission office.Β In addition, you can register atΒ a number of state agencies, including theΒ Registry of Motor VehiclesΒ and theΒ Department of Transitional Assistance, according to the Secretary of State's Website.
