A nurse from the Health and Human Services Department will hold a drop-in health maintenance clinic on Monday at 9 a.m. This is an opportunity for Newton residents to have their blood pressure taken, ask a medication question or consult with the public health nurse about a health issue. Healthy Cooking Expert to Speak in Newton

Cookbook author Katie Workman will discuss her book, The Mom 100 Cookbook at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center, 333 Nahanton St. in Newton, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Geared for novice cooks to experienced chefs, attendees will learn how to shop, what to prepare and whose recipes to follow. Joining the discussion, which will be moderated by food blogger, author (Well

Glass Fusing Workshop

The Newton Art Center, 61 Washington Park in Newtonville, hosts a unique opportunity for you to make a one-of-a-kind plate using colored glass pieces on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. No previous experience is required to attend this fun and hands on workshop. Exhibition Reception & Artist Talk: Arctic Visions

From Iceland to Svalbard, Goren is inspired by the landscape near and above the Arctic Circle. As a member of the 2013 voyage of Arctic Circle, Goren spent 3 weeks in the Arctic in the fall of 2013 and will present stories and photos of her experience – Painting! Polar Bears! “Swimming”! and more. Working exclusively in watercolors, Lisa is focused on bringing the colors of the “barren” Polar regions to new audiences. The event at the Scandinavian Cultural Center begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday. The talk will begin at 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Film Composition Workshop
