Heat Wave Over as Heavy Rain Misses Most of Mass.: MA Weather Forecast
A late shift in the storm's trajectory spared much of the state of bad rain while still cooling us off.

The heat wave is over thanks to a band of rain that is still making its way past Massachusetts, but a late change of direction spared the north and northeast part of the state of significant precipitation and lessened the blow south of Boston.
The storm that some thought would dump anywhere from one to four inches (the latter in flash flood scenarios) on parts of the state shifted south, meaning that while Southeastern Mass. and the Cape & Islands are still getting hit hard with as much as two inches, the rainfall total was significantly less in other regions.
The rain is expected to be completely done in the Boston area by noon, a big change from the initial forecast of 9 p.m.

Massachusetts should still see some showers this weekend, but the intense heat that baked most of the last week won't be returning for at least several days.
The heat wave, which lasted between 6-8 days depending on where you live, was among the longest in recent Massachusetts history. Many municipalities instituted mandatory outdoor non-essential water restrictions.
