Lumière To Close In West Newton After 20 Years

Lumière is set to close soon, and it looks like there's a replacement in the works.

NEWTON, MA — It's an end of an era, after 20 years in West Newton, Lumiere's owner announced the West Newton restaurant is set to close its doors. A chalk board sign in front of the restaurant thanks customers for coming over the years and a posting to social media indicates that Christmas 2019 and New Years Eve 2019 dinners would be the spot's final of those type.

Now it looks like something tentatively named Bluebird Bar & Grill is set to open in the space this year.

It's not clear when Lumiere will close, owner Jordan Bailey did not return request for comment, for good or when the new spot will take its place, but New Towne Hospitality, which is registered to David Sardella of South Boston, who is also connected with a flat bread pizza restaurant in Franklin, came before the Newton's Board of License Commissioners Tuesday to transfer the alcohol, food and entertainment licenses.

Michael Leviton first opened Lumiere as a high-end bistro in 1999, and about five years ago sold the place to Bailey who worked at the restaurant at the time. The restaurant featured wine tastings, and art previews, and farm-to-table events over the years.
