Newton Community Pride Awards Mini-grant to Bristol Rd Commonwealth Ave Beautification Project

Newton resident Jane Hanser successfully petitioned the City* to close off the section of Comm Ave Carriage Road from Bristol Road to Chestnut St to motor vehicles. This effectively turns this 330' section of the Carriage Lane into a mini-park. The long sought after and welcome change allows pedestrians, runners and bicyclists safe access to this area. (It also eliminates the crashes that occurred at the intersection of the Carriage Road & Chestnut St.)

Newton Community Pride, whose events are funded through business sponsorships and individual donations, has now awarded us a mini-grant to beautify this section. Our plans include painting the two concrete barriers that block access to motor vehicles with beautiful sunflowers. Plans also include some landscaping along the berm to further beautify and protect users, as well as to promote clean air and fight climate change.

We are looking for abutters and neighbors to join in our Sunday events, one when we paint the barriers and another when we plant the bushes. Please stay tuned for more details as to date and time of the event. For more information, visit commonwealthavecarriagelane.com and subscribe to our blog.
