Newsweek Ranks Newton North as One of America's Best High Schools
The magazine's 2013 rankings came out Monday and included roughly 2,000 schools.

Newsweek has ranked Newton North High SchoolΒ as #982 in its list of America's Best High Schools.Β
However, Newton South High School, which frequently out-ranks Newton North in other high school rankings, did not make the Newsweek list.Β

In May 2012, Newton South was ranked as the 11th best high school in Massachusetts and #237 nationally by the U.S. News & World Report. Meanwhile, Newton North was ranked #36 in the state and #637 nationally.
When Boston Magazine ranked Boston-area high schools in September 2012, Newton South came in at #7 and Newton North at #11.Β

For its rankings, Newsweek sent out a survey to more than 5,000 high schools in the U.S., with about 2,500 schools responding in 2013. You can see the details about Newton North's ranking, and every other ranked high school by clicking on the markers in the interactive map above.
The survey scores were then weighted and calculated using several criteria including on-time graduation and college acceptance rates. In addition, instead of averaging the number of courses offered, this year Newsweek considered the percentage of students enrolled in AP, IB or Advance International Certificate courses. The final scores then determined Newsweekβs final rankings.
The highest-ranked school in Massachusetts,Β according to the Newsweek list, is Boston Latin School, coming in at #114 nationally. Next on the list is #140-ranked Dover-Sherborn High School.Β
