Newton Cultural Alliance is keeping you connected with each other and with your favorite local arts and culture organizations.
*Historic Newton presents: Reading Frederick Douglass Together on July 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Jackson Homestead and Museum. Come and hear a public reading of the famous Frederick Douglass address, βWhat to the Slave is the Fourth of July?β The museum will be open for special hours from noon to 5 p.m. with free admission. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the back lawn of the Homestead. Funded by a grant from Mass Humanities. Museum and special event information are found here.
*The New Philharmonia Orchestra celebrates the 4th of July on July 3rd at 6:30 p.m. with an exciting program celebrating America, our freedoms, our culture, and our community! Outdoors at the Newton Centre Bowl β bring your lawn chairs and picnic and join the fun as we celebrate Independence Day in Newton. This Pops Concert will feature a variety of celebratory American musical treats and Aaron Coplandβs iconic βLincoln Portrait,β with special guest Mayor Ruthanne Fuller narrating excerpts of Abraham Lincolnβs great documents. *Newtonβs 4th of July celebration has something for everyone starting Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with a Kids Morning that features live performances from David Polansky, a live sculptural event, free ice cream from Cabotβs, and a parade with Kids Craft Corner. Top off the night at 6:30 p.m. with East Coast Soul, a collection of Bostonβs finest musicians who will have you dancing in your seat and singing along with all your favorites from R&B, Pop, and Classic Rock. *The Newton Free Library hosts Rockabye Beats: Live at the Hyde Bandstand on July 7th at 10:30 a.m. Come dance, sing and get a little loco! Original and contemporary music the whole family will enjoy. Rockabye Beats includes Spanish songs; freestyle dance; an instrument show and tell; music jams; a live guitar performance; and more. *Explore New Art Centerβs 5-week class entitled Landscapes of the Imagination with instructor John Murray. On Fridays at 1:30 p.m. students will paint their own responses using photos, sketches and Cezanneβs approach to distance and perception in the landscape. The class may go outside to sketch or take photos as light permits. Learn to go beyond the picturesque to your own vision, limited only by your imagination. Register here to stretch your imagination.
