Newton Police Log: Calling AAA Under the Influence; Car Break-in

Calling AAA...Under the influence

A Wellesley man was arrested on April 26 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and attempted to call AAA after losing a wheel on his vehicle.

According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched at 9:11 p.m. Friday, April 26, after AAA called the police to report an intoxicated driver attempting to have his tire changed.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man in the driver's seat of a Mercury Marquis, which was still running. Police said the man smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech and glassy/bloodshot eyes.

Due to the "reckless driving, accident, failure to realize his wheel was no longer connected to his vehicle, odor of alcohol, glassy/bloodshot eyes and slurred speech," the driver was placed under arrest, police said.

Richard Earl Nickeson, 48, of 41 Summit Road, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Car break-in

Newton Police responded to Adams Street on April 28 for reports of a past breaking and entering to a motor vehicle.

According to reports, the vehicle owner said he left his car unlocked in the garage underneath his apartment building. Someone entered the vehicle sometime overnight, the owner said.
