Newton Resident Appointed To Blue Cross Foundation Board

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation today announced that Dr. Sandhya Rao has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Dr. Rao is the chief medical officer and senior vice president of health and medical management at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Dr. Rao, of Newton, joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in December 2020, following her role as vice president of clinical strategy at Haven, the not-for-profit health care organization created by Amazon, JP Morgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway.

She previously served as senior medical director for population health management at Partners HealthCare (now Mass General Brigham), associate medical director of the Mass General Physicians Organization, and as a business analyst at McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm. She has also been a primary care provider at both Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

“Dr. Rao is a tremendous addition to the Foundation’s board, a leader with strong clinical experience, expertise in population health management, and overall strategic vision,” said Manny Lopes, chairman of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. “Her experience as a strategist and problem solver and her commitment to changing our health care system, as evidenced by her previous roles, will bring a valued perspective to our board.”
