Bozhena Kogan, R.N. of Newton was recognized in the Boston Globeโ€™s annual โ€œSalute to Nurses,โ€ for her exemplary work as Director of Nursing at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center - Boston. Hebrew Rehabilitation Center offers long-term chronic care, post-acute rehabilitation, and outpatient services to seniors, and is part of Hebrew SeniorLife, a senior care organization that is committed to improving the lives of older adults.

The Globeโ€™s annual โ€œSalute to Nursesโ€ recognizes nurses whose dedication and caring have saved lives, soothed fears, and eased the pain of countless patients and their families.

Kogan was nominated by her colleague Tammy Retalic, M.S., R.N., Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President, Patient Care Services, Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. In her โ€œSalute to Nursesโ€ nomination of Kogan, Retalic said, โ€œI usually consider the role of the bedside nurse when I nominate for Salute to Nurses. But itโ€™s the role of the nurse leader thatโ€™s responsible for providing guidance and resources to support bedside nurses, particularly during challenging times. The pandemic, despite its challenges, provided a time to see who would lead and rise above the challenges. Bozhena rose above the chaos and provided the gentle, but firm, leadership needed to carry her teams. As a result of her rolling up her sleeves, listening, and supporting the bedside nurse during times of great distress, and always leading with calm reassurance, Bozhena made everything possible. Even during a pandemic. Her role and leadership were essential in making sure that both quality of care and quality of life were always considered, and above all else, that the nursing staff felt cared about and could do what needed to be done. As a result, the teams are stronger than ever and always ready to move forward.โ€
