Newton School Committee Gives OK to Mason-Rice Modular Classrooms
The Board of Aldermen is scheduled to take up funding for the new modulars at its meeting tonight.

After approving two new modular classrooms in December, the Newton School Committee gave its OK last week for more modulars at Mason-Rice Elementary School.Β
The committee voted unanimously Thurs., May 2 to accept the School Department administration's recommendation for two additional modulars at Mason-Rice, according to an email from School Committee Chair Claire Sokoloff.Β
The four new modular classrooms are expected to be installed for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.Β

Citing increased enrollmentΒ and strained classroom space,Β the School Committee agreed last year to install eight modulars at four elementary schools, includingΒ one new modular for Horace Mann, four new modulars forΒ Bowen, one modular for Burr andΒ two new modulars for Mason-Rice.
According to minutes from the April 29, 2013 Finance Committee meeting, the bid for all the modular classrooms has been awarded to Triumph Modular, Inc., the same company that installed modular classrooms at Oak Hill Middle School.

The mayor is requesting $2.4 million for the project, the mintues said.
The full Board of Aldermen is scheduled to take up the funding for the modular classrooms at its meeting this evening, which will take place after the annual water/sewer rate hearing at 7 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers at City Hall.
