Newton's 2016 Winter Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know

While we are expecting freezing weather this weekend, here's some important information to keep on hand throughout the winter.

NEWTON, MA β€” As we enter the winter months, the weather becomes a bigger factor in our lives. Between snow, sleet, wintry mixes and freezing temperatures, it's more important than ever to make sure your family is safe in the event of an emergency. Here is some important information you should know about winter in Newton.

Parking

Parking is banned overnight from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. until April 15. If a "snow emergency" is declared, parking is not allowed on any city street and vehicle owners may be ticketed or cars towed. Parking is allowed in City-owned lots. Permits are required and may be obtained through the Newton Police Department.

The City of Newton’s ordinances pertaining to snow and ice operations are intended to minimize safety hazards, reduce situations that impede operations associated with snow and ice control, and to provide for continued mobility for residents and visitors to traverse the City’s streets and sidewalks. Property owners are required by City ordinances to clear snow and ice from the walk and ADA curb cuts within 30 hours after a storm has ceased. Properties within identified business districts are required to clear snow and ice from the walk and ADA curb cuts within 24 hours.
