"School Matters" Screening Lets Newton Community Give Feedback

On January 24, 2019, NewTV hosted a screening of the first episode of its show βSchool Mattersβ at NewTV Studios. βSchool Mattersβ is a recently launched show that raises awareness of educational issues of local and national importance and highlights the efforts of students and the school community to make an impact and improve the world around them.
The showβs host, Margie Ross Decter, is a former School Committee Member in Newton. The first episode of the show focuses on how the tragic Parkland shooting inspired Newton Public School students' civic engagement and featured opinions from both local teachers and students.
The screening included a half-hour for networking before the episode and a Q&A session afterwards. Attendees included elected officials and school leaders from Newton, such as representatives from the Mayorβs Office, City Council, School Committee, PTO leaders, teachers, and students. During the Q&A, guests made suggestions for future episodes and potential topics for the show.
