Joan was a past president of American Legion Auxillary Unit 221, Bedford, and current member of Post 440 Auxillary in Newton.

NEWTON, MA – Shoemaker, Joan A. (Lys) of Newton, Feb. 11, 2017.

Beloved wife of Thomas K. Shoemaker.

Devoted mother of Michael P. Malone and his wife Joy and their children Michael L., Ashley E., Matthew P. of Arlington; Christine N. Malone and her partner Rick Collette and their children Jamie P. and Gisel of Watertown; Stepmother of William K. Shoemaker and his sons Isaac and Zachary.

Joan was a great-grandmother to Aubrey Rose. She also leaves her former husband, Carmen Malone.

Past President of American Legion Auxillary Unit 221, Bedford. Current member of Post 440 Auxillary, Newton. She enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean and time with family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan’s name may be made to the American Legion Post 440, 295 California St, Newton, MA 02458 or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Visiting hours in the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, Newton, Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 4-8PM. Funeral Service Wednesday morning at 10AM. Burial at 1:15pm at MA National Cemetery in Bourne (Cape Cod).
