βI am thrilled to be serving as the honorary co-chair of the National Parks Centennial Celebration with First Lady Laura Bush,β said First Lady Michelle Obama in a release. βSince the launch of Letβs Move! Outside in 2010, the National Park Foundation has been encouraging kids and families to get active, get outside, and take advantage of Americaβs great outdoors. I look forward to celebrating the National Park Serviceβs 100th anniversary and encouraging people across the country to βFind Your Park,β whether itβs in your backyard, in your hometown, or in one of our beautiful national parks.β
βFrom Acadia National Park on the East Coast, to Yosemite on the West; from Glacier National Park in the North, to Big Bend in the South; Iβve collected national parks like stamps. Iβve even lived in a national park, the White House,β said Laura Bush in the release. βOur national parks are the treasures of our country. I am happy to celebrate 100 years of Americaβs best idea, our national parks. I invite all Americans to join me in Find Your Park.β
According to a study conducted for the National Park Foundation, only 38 percent are familiar with the organization, though 80 percent have heard of the name.
The Foundation oversees 407 national parks.
βAs we approach the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service, this is a perfect time for all Americans β especially young people β to Find Your Park, from neighborhood parks to national parks and all public lands in between,β said Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell in a release.
