Robert Roderick, Singer, Commander of Newton Post, Dies at 84
Services are Thursday for this longtime Newton resident.

Robert Roderick, 84, a longtime resident of Newton, Massachusetts, died peacefully in his home after a long illness. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Joseph Roderick and Mary (Pacheco) Roderick. He was the husband of Sylvia (Moore) Roderick, whom he was married to for 57 years.
He graduated from Somerville High Trade School in June, 1950. He served in the Airforce in the Korean War from June 1951 to October 1953. After the war, he received one of the first scholarships to Berkley School of Music, to study voice from 1954-1955. He had a beautiful voice and almost became a professional singer. Instead, he decided to work at the Watertown Arsenal, where he was employed as the printing plant supervisor. He retired in 1986. A natural leader, Bob was active in his community for many years. He served as Vice Commander of the Newton Post 440, was President of the Inplant Printing Managers Association, Founder and Co-President of the Newton Neighborhood Network, and was also involved in the Newton Childrenβs Christmas Foundation.

He loved his grandchildren, he loved to travel, play golf, bowl, and spend time gardening. He was a unique individual who could make anyone feel comfortable and laugh. He will certainly be missed by all that knew him.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Geraghty, of Westford, Massachusetts, son in law James Geraghty Jr, and grandchildren Anne, Jimmy III, Kelly and Beth Geraghty. He was predeceased by his son, Bill Roderick. He was also survived by many beloved neices and nephews, a brother Herbert, and best friend, Gino Sepe.

Visiting hours in the Andrew J. Magni & Son Funeral Home, 365 Watertown St, Rt. 16, Newton, Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4-8PM and again Friday morning at 10AM, before proceeding at 11AM to the Gardens Cemetery, Baker St, West Roxbury for burial.
