Stacks Espresso Bar In Newton Highlands Closes

Stacks Espresso Bar appears closed for good.

NEWTON, MA β€” If you've walked past the corner of Walnut and Lincoln streets in Newton Highlands lately, you may have noticed a red and white "for Lease" sign in the window and the sign, that once signaled that Stacks Esspresso Bar was open for business is no where to be seen.

According to a person who was clearing out the store on a recent Monday, the coffee shop was closed for good. Tyler Wrightson, who owns Leet Cyber Security, opened the first Stacks in 2014 in Albany. His Newton location, which replaced Fleck on Walnut Street in 2018, was the fourth shop to open. When the pandemic forced businesses to close in March, the store announced it would be closing temporarily. But as the small chain's other locations have been slowly reopening, the Newton Highlands location has been headed in the other direction.

Multiple emails and messages to the company were not returned.

It's not clear how much the pandemic played into the shuttering of the coffee shop. However, such closures are becoming familiar as businesses large and small struggle with either months of closure or severely diminished business amid the pandemic. While the state's moratorium on evictions was extended even as the state slowly reopens to allow outdoor dining and limited indoor dining, it just doesn't seem to be enough for many businesses to catch up.
