Born in Chennai (Madras), India, Siva Kumar grew up in a vegetarian family, and learned how to cook from his mother. He learned to love cooking, too. So much so that he attended the Institute of Hotel Management and Nutrition in Cennai, and then trained at Taj Hotels in Chennai and Mumbai. Moving to the United States in 2003, Kumar worked at various local restaurants, and then he and a partner opened Red Lentil, a vegetarian restaurant, in Watertown, in 2009. It was met with great success, leading Kumar to open the Walnut Grille in 2012.
Located in Newton Highlands, the Walnut Grille offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free fare with a global flavor influence. Using local ingredients from Dover Farms and others, the Walnut Grille offers the best fresh, healthy, and up-to-date meals around.
