WindowART To Fill Vacant Windows Around Newton
Newton Community Pride is trying something a little different this year and repurposing its FenceArt project.

NEWTON, MA β If you've ever walked past a vacant storefront and felt a little hopeful about the potential that space has, you're not alone.
Newton Community Pride, a nonprofit volunteer group with a mission that includes beautification projects that support the community, decided to fill vacant windows with art.
βWe hope this new WindowART program in our villages will engage shoppers and pedestrians throughout our commercial centers creating an unexpected experience to come upon quality artwork in their daily lives," said Gloria Gavris, board chair of Newton Community Pride.

"WindowART," is a public art initiative to bring art to Newtonβs commercial districts to help property owners and create a way for people to experience art where they least expect it.
The project is repurposing the FenceART images of artwork by Newton artists and putting them in the windows in the form of 3-foot-by-four-foot vinyl banners for property owners who want to fill their vacant storefront windows.

Annually, a jury of professional artists selects works by Newton artists for art in the FenceART program. A broad range of styles and media depicting everything from landscapes to the abstract make their way to liven fences around the city.
βWindowART in our vacant village storefronts will bring beautifully created printed three-by-four foot vinyl banners to a wider audience to experience and at the same time dress up unattractive empty windows with color and creativityβ Gavris said.
