Local 5K honors teacher, raises early cancer detection awareness
Mark your calendars for May 19th but sign up now

Northborough – Time to take out your sneakers for the third annual Lisa Kaplan Memorial 5K Walk/Run and Kids’ Fun Run. The event will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Robert E. Melican Middle School located at 145 Lincoln Street in Northborough. The race is held in the memory of Lisa Kaplan, a beloved Spanish teacher, friend, colleague and community member who passed away in November 2015 from a rare cancer.
Once again, proceeds from the race will be donated to the Lisa Kaplan Memorial Fund, which supports the 15-40 Connection, a Westborough, MA based non-profit whose mission is to improve cancer survival rates by educating people on early cancer detection. Last year’s race had 350 participants and raised $20,000.
The Kids' Fun Run will start at 8:30 am in the field behind the school, followed by the 5K race start at 9 am.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register online or by mail at Lisa Kaplan Memorial Fund, Attn: Becky Jones, Race Liaison, 145 Lincoln Street, Northborough MA 01532. Race day registration will be available but credit cards will not be accepted at that time.
Runners registered before May 6 will receive a long sleeve race shirt. T-shirts only can be ordered as well, and donations of support are welcomed.
The race will be USATF certified and chip timed by RaceWire. Awards will be given to the overall winner in each age division. Live music will entertain participants along the course route as well as at the finish line.
Registration information and all the race details can be found at www.LK5K.racewire.com and questions can be directed to lk5k145@gmail.com. Additional information on the 15-40 Connection can be found at www.15-40.org.
