Lt. Lyver Replacing Leahy as Town's Police Chief

Lyver takes over for the retired Mark Leahy.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — A town native and longtime member of the Police Department will become the next police chief.

Lt. William Lyver is taking over, officially, after being appointed at this week's Board of Selectmen meeting, reports the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.

Perhaps one of the most transparent, community-oriented, media-friendly police outfits around, Lyver has long been Leahy's right-hand man, and gladly accepted when Leahy offered the job.

Leahy is retiring after 13 years as chief to become become the executive director of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.

Lyver graduated from Algonquin Regional High School, and he and his family have been longtime residents.
