In my neighbor's yard...

Thought and Poem

Thought and Poem

There are some days; we just need to get away from our normal routine; to find that something that will help us to escape the reality of what we are enduring. Talking a walk and exploring the neighborhood can be all you need to find what you need.

When I go for a walk, I always have my eyes open for anything that might captivate my attention. Trust me when I say it doesn’t take much to amuse me. I always carry my iPhone with me wherever I go as I never know what will inspire me. From time to time I will meet a few of my neighbors and I love chatting with them and learning about their lives and what keeps them peaceful.

Just a short distance from my home I passed a very attractive yard. The grass was so green and there was an array of colorful flowers scattered all around the yard. The older woman who I have met before took the time to tell me about some of the flowers in her front yard. A few moments later, her daughter came out to join us and they both took me on a tour of their back yard. It was beautiful and so peaceful. I didn’t want to leave.

I don’t have any real flowers in my yard, except when my garden is blooming, so I pulled out my iPhone to show them some of the floral pictures I had taken recently. As we walked and talked, I snapped a few new pictures for my collection and to help me remember the moment.

What about you? When you are out walking in your neighborhood, are you apt to stop to smell the flowers? Or are you one who will just pass these by? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst

In my neighbor’s yard

I went for a walk down my street...
The exercise was good although it was brief...
I waved hello to the people in the cars passing by...
Then something caught my eyes.

It was a well-trimmed lawn, as green as a lawn should be...
Then an older woman and her daughter came over to greet me...
We talked about their flowers of all different kinds...
Then I took out my iPhone to show them a few pictures of mine.

Their flowers had bloomed in all shades of colors and were as pretty as they could be...
But the floral pictures in my iPhone...these were just a memory...
Theirs filled the air with their scents...
My flowers had these too but were captured in prints...the only difference.

They gave me a tour of their yard...
I could tell that over the years they had worked very hard...
To get their yard so nice they did a lot of watering, a lot of trimming and a lot of transplanting....
All their hard work truly paid off as their yard looks pretty: a peaceful place to spend the day sitting.

Not all things that make you feel good will cost money...
Sometimes it will just take some beautiful flowers and good company.
And in just a few moments of time as you can see…
I captured pictures of living flowers with my iPhone; another good memory...for free.
