Northborough Nurse Accused Of Tampering With Morphine

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — A Northborough nurse has been charged with tampering with morphine at the Worcester County nursing home she worked at.

Gwen Rider, 41, is accused of removing some of the morphine from a bottle and tampering with the rest while she was caring for dementia patients in November. She made her initial appearance in court Monday afternoon, and was indicted on one count of tampering with a consumer product and one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and deception.

The tampering charge could carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, or up to three years of supervised release with a $250,000 fine. Being convicted of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and deception could entail a sentence of up to four years in prison, up to one year of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
