Northborough Utility Company To Pay $186K For Unpaid Overtime

The Northborough company failed to pay 55 employees their overtime during the National Grid lockout.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — A Northborough utility company was ordered to pay $186,610 in restitution for failing to pay 55 employees overtime, according to the Attorney General's Fair Labor Division.

Omark Inc. of Northborough provides contract services for utility companies such as National Grid and worked with National Grid during the lock-out in 2018. The AG's office started investigating Omark in October 2018 after a complaint was submitted accusing the company of failing to properly pay employees.

Some Omark employees were working more than 80 hours in a week between January and December 2018, and the AG's investigation revealed that the company failed to pay time and a half for hours worked in excess of 40 per week as required by law.

In total, the AG's office found that 55 employees were not properly paid.

“When companies don’t pay overtime, they cheat their workers and gain an unfair advantage over law-abiding businesses,” said AG Maura Healey. “As a result of action by our office, Omark’s employees will receive the wages they earned.”
