Northborough's Annual Applefest Will Continue, With Changes
The pandemic didn't wipe out Northborough's Applefest but it did push some events to become virtual.

NORTHBOROUGH, MA — Northborough's Annual Applefest is still on for this year, with quite a few changes.
The coronavirus pandemic has kept the event from incorporating some classic staples like the gala, fireworks, parade and street fair. All isn't lost as events like the Northborough Junior Woman’s Club apple pie sales are still on as well as the Friends of the Northborough Library Book Sale. Most of the food sales are on a pre-order and pickup basis. The book sale will be on the front lawn of the library.
The Annual Applefest will run from Sept. 24 to Sept. 27.

The Annual Applefest 5K Road Race will be held virtually and event organizers are encouraging people to snap and share photos of their own 5k record. In place of the Street Fair, the Rotary Club will be sponsoring a Virtual Applefest Rotary Street Fair Trivia competition. Teams will be represented by Street Fair patrons. Organizers plan to broadcast the preliminaries and finals on local cable and YouTube.
As this year's Grand Marshal, the Applefest Committee chose Geoff Kelly, owner of Sir Loin Catering. Kelly was chosen for his compassion during the height of the pandemic — Sir Loin provided meals twice a week for two months and impacted over 15,000 people including hospital staff and the elderly who couldn’t leave their homes.
