One-Sided Politics In Northborough Town Government and Elections
Town election and decisions making pushing resident needs aside for a pro-growth agenda with associated increased service costs and taxes
"Companies should not get involved in politics except for donating money" so stated an arrogant U. S. Senator, says it all. Money, however, determines favorable political decisions by those receiving the funds or contributions. These decisions, in turn, approve or favor various and numerous company and business projects and activities that would otherwise be rejected under normal circumstances. Legislation, policies and by-laws get manipulated to serve the interests of a company or business over that of a local resident or citizen.
Personal connections count in politics. The Town of Northborough is welcoming and encouraging business owners, developers, real estate lawyers and brokers, affiliate businesses and relatives to run for various political boards and committees to continue a pro-growth agenda at the expense of local residents. If you have a legitimate conflict of interest and will say "yes" or approve any and all development proposals, you are welcome to join the current field of "growth-for-profit" governing officials. The quality of life, living costs, rising property taxes and affordable housing are not of interest nor a priority for many of the current Board of Selectmen and Zoning Appeals Board members. Committees are stacked with the same people holding down positions on multiple committees. If your prone to sympathize with issues related to residents needs, reducing expenses, limiting growth, lowering property taxes, and a dual tax system you are not wanted.
Newly elected officials or candidates who desire to assist the residents and uphold the laws and regulations are labeled as being members of the "Party of No" and are subject to smear campaigns and character assassinations by those who are really profiting off the town and its people. It is the people who make the town. Residents are consumers too. Local businesses would not exist or succeed without resident support. When increasing revenue and growth are made the top priorities, they guarantee increase service costs which, in turn, raises taxes. Genuine concern for families on low or fixed income and the integrity of neighborhoods are absent. Continued one-sided practices and politics has severe implications and costs to residents going forth into the future. A new town administrator is needed as is a new economic direction. The local residents should insist on the removal or resignation of all associated with building development and sales currently holding Board/Committee positions.
