Tears may be a good thing...

Thought and Poem

Thought and Poem

A lot has been said about our need to cry. Some are glad the tears come and cleanse their inner soul, while others feel that crying is a weakness.

One of the first things we did in life after taking our first breath when we were born…was to cry. From then on crying told our parents that we a need and the pitch of our cry told them what that need was. Were we hungry, tired, “messy,” or did we just want to be held?

As we aged to the toddler/adolescence stages, our cries were more of a demand or because of disappointment when we did not get what we wanted. Our parents were a little more attuned by then and were able to ignore the cries that dramatized the temper tantrums.

When we got to the teen years, our tears came more because of emotional malfunctions. Our bodies were changing, we were learning about boys and girls and melt-downs were more related to the sadness we felt and didn’t know why.

But, as we grew older we had other reasons to shed our tears. Some of the times were because we were full of joy and other times it may have been because we were annoyed, unemployed, stressed to the max, had a disagreement with our family or friends, when we didn’t feel well, when our family or friends didn’t feel well and the list could go on and on.

But for whatever reasons why we cry, and whatever stage of life we shed our tears…tears have a way of making it all better for the moment and give us the needed push to face the rest of our lives. Tears and shedding them…is an okay thing to do.

What about you? Do you feel relief when you shed you tears, or are you one to hold them back? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst

Tears may be a good thing…

We know it is okay to cry...
And there doesn’t have to be a reason why...
Our hearts know when we need to let the tears flow...
And no one else has to know.

I’ve had occasions when tears welled up in my eyes...
So I am not surprised...
At how I felt after my tears were shed...
They also emptied the accompanying thoughts forming in my head.

Still there is no need to feel any shame...
For why there was a need to cry and the tears came...
They just show up when we need them too...
And they do their job helping us to feel better when they do.

They come when we are happy and they share our joys with us...
They come when we are unhappy and help to keep us from giving up...
They come when we are in pain and can help to release the hurt...
They come and can console us when we suffer.

Yes tears shed are part of life...
From the time we are born until the time we die...
You may not always know the reasons why...
But we do know...it is okay to cry.
