Wellesley Resident Dick Bresciani Dedicated Decades to Red Sox

Bresciani died of leukemia last week at the age of 76.

Richard “Dick” L. Bresciani, VP/Emeritus and team historian for the Boston Red Sox died on Saturday after a battle with leukemia. The Wellesley resident “dedicated his heart and soul to the Red Sox, his alma mata UMass, and the Cape Cod Baseball League,” it reads in Bresciani’s obituary, which can be found here.

The Boston Globe and other news outlets featured Bresciani and his longtime dedication to the Sox.

“Fifty years after his high school playing days, he was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006 for devoting decades to the team’s public relations department,” wrote the Globe.

He was hired as an assistant for the Sox’s public relations department in 1972, and eventually became the VP of public affairs.

“Because of his background, Mr. Bresciani understood the pressure of deadlines and post game interviews,” reported the Globe, adding that he had worked for the Milford Daily News, The Boston Globe and others.

His close friends called him “Bresh,” and Bresciani was also a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, and earned the Robert O. Fishel Award, which is Major League Baseball’s highest honor in public relations, said NECN.

“He was widely revered by many players, including second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who took to Twitter to offer his thoughts,” said the Boston Herald.
