Worcester Man Arraigned In Fatal Shooting In Northborough

WORCESTER — A 28-year-old Worcester man was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing after being arraigned today in Central District Court on charges related to a fatal shooting Saturday on Chandler Street, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Angel Ortiz-Santos of 244 Pleasant St. is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon resulting in serious bodily injury and illegal possession of a firearm in the fatal shooting of Carlos Cruz, 44, of 179 Belmont St., Worcester.
Mr. Ortiz-Santos turned himself in to Worcester Police this morning.

Assistant District Attorney Joseph A. Simmons said Mr. Cruz was shot multiple times at 1:27 a.m., Saturday, outside the Paku Lounge at 215 Chandler St. Mr. Cruz ran across Chandler Street after being shot and collapsed on the sidewalk. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m.
Judge Jennifer Ginsburg continued the case to May 28 for a dangerousness hearing. She also revoked Mr. Ortiz-Santos’s bail on an open case in Dudley District Court where he is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.
Worcester Police are investigating the shooting.
