ACQUIRE: Find a Mix of Vintage and Modern

Sometimes we grow tired of the tried and true white blanket. Or we want a fresh feeling in the living room.

If that’s how you’re feeling this season, look no further than ACQUIRE.

Located at 61 Salem Street, the shop sells home furnishings, handbags and jewelry.

Owner Nikki Dalrymple opened the boutique in 2008.

“I’m an ex-New Yorker and the North End had a mix of old and new and that resonated with me,” she said. “We carry a mix of vintage and modern home accessories and gifts.”

Nikki didn’t begin her professional life as a boutique owner.

“I was a television producer working at National Geographic and HBO four about 12 years in New York, Washington, D.C. and then New York,” she said. “I did a lot of set-design work when I was working in television and I always loved that facet of the job. When I moved up to Boston in 2004, I realized that I was no longer interested in pursuing a television career and my heart was really in design.”

Nikki said she’s a self-trained designer.

She’s proud of ACQUIRE and the work she’s done.

“We’ve won ‘Best of Boston’ from Boston Magazine, Improper Bostonian and we’ve also been featured in the New York Times, Travel & Leisure as well as design blogs such as Apartment Therapy, Style Carrot and Urban Daddy.”

According to ACQUIRE’s website, Nikki was named by Boston Home Magazine as one of “The Hot 50, The Next Generation of Design Stars Who are Shaping the City” in 2010.

Nikki is known for “artfully arranging vintage influences with contemporary design. She loves big scale and frank color; organic materials and textures; and contemporary art mixed with antique furniture and found objects.”

If you want to look at the website before stopping by the boutique, Nikki has some guidance.

“We have an edited selection of product on the website,” she said. “We also highlight some of the interior design work we do.”

As for the North End, Nikki loves everything about it.

“My husband and I lived on North Margin Street from 2007 to 2010,” she said. “Then we moved to Charlestown.”

In addition loving being a former resident of the community, Nikki is thrilled to be a business owner here.

“I like the people in the North End, the atmosphere and the pace of the city,” she said. “Salem Street seems like authentic North End to me.”

The hours for ACQUIRE are Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m.
