BOZO Awards, Getting Nutty in the North End

Here are some of our favorite comments from readers.

There were a number of comments on North End Patch this week.

Sports writer Gerry Stewart shared his thoughts on the end of the football season. He presented BOZO awards to richly deserving recipients.

“Very amusing, 4th! Rewards for good deeds in heaven?” said Hovey Law. “Fuhgetaboutit. Winning a BOZO is reward enough, and ample proof that modern life makes more sense on a playing field than anywhere else. Look forward to reading you again. Can you switch to hockey or something?? Call it ‘3rd Period's a Charm’ or something.”

We profile businesses and learned how much people in this community like Polcari’s Coffee on Salem Street.

In addition to coffee, the shop sells over 150 herbs and spices, crackers, olive oil, canned goods, candy, seeds for growing vegetables and nuts amongst other items.

Janet Gilardi loves the place.

“Polcari's carries a huge assortment of spices, coffee, candy, etc.

This store has been there for years and years,” she said. “I have found that the new young men that own it now, are the nicest ever! I think we (Old North Enders) forgot to frequent this gem of a store. They have everything! AND NUTS -- LOTS OF NUTS  -- ha ha ha. Can't forget The Nuts!”

On a more serious note, North End Against Drugs had a meeting where Suffolk University students came to describe a project they are doing that will help the organization operate more efficiently.

“Their project is us and will be completed by the end of March,” said President Debra DeChristoforo.“Anything they can do to help us is a great idea.”

Janet Gilardi was enthusiastic.

“Thank You Debbie and Thank You Suffolk University!,” she said.
