The North End also saw its own, personal news this week. On Monday, Friends of Christopher Columbus Park hosted a day-long celebration for the Italian explorer. There was a parade, ceremony at the statue and family events including a much-loved magician and juggler.

And North End Patch had the honor of speaking to Tony DeMarco one evening this week. The former undisputed Welterweight Champion of the World was charming, funny and inspiring. 

On Saturday, October 20, he will be on hand to witness the unveiling of his statue in the North End. There will be ceremony at the site of the statue at 1 p.m. on the corner of Hanover Street and Cross Street.
