Daily 5: Christmas in July, 'Blade Runner' at the Library

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on July 31 in the North End.

1. Sunny: Wednesday, July 31 will be sunny with a high near 82 and a low around 64, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Christmas in July: The North End Recovery Outreach Committee teen program will sponsor a “Christmas in July” party on Wednesday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at DeFilippo Park on Prince Street. Enjoy pizza from Regina Pizzeria, slush and beverages, holiday music, super slides and bounce houses and a special early visit from Santa Claus. The evening’s feature film will be “Christmas Vacation.” Bring your own chairs or blankets.

3. Ridley Scott film series: On Wednesdays in July, watch the films of director Ridley Scott during a free film series offered at 5:30 p.m. at the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.). The July 31 film will be “Blade Runner” (1982).

4. Girls’ Book Club: Girls in kindergarten through second grade are invited to drop by the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.) for a lively discussion of the book “The Night Fairy” by Laura Amy Schlitz. Register in advance by calling 617-227-8135.

5. Autism study: The University of Connecticut is looking for local children with autism to participate in a play intervention study. The study is open to children with autism spectrum disorders between three and 14 years of age. The study consists of 20 approximately 30-minute sessions over 10 weeks.
