Daily 5: Summer Fun Festival on Spectacle Island

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Monday, July 1 in the North End.

1. Thunderstorms: Monday will be cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely, according to the National Weather Service. Some storms could produce heavy rain. There is a chance of rain in the evening as well. High: 80, Low: 69.

2. Summer Fun Festival: Come out to Spectacle Island on Monday for Mayor Menino’s Summer Fun Festival—a day full of fun activities for the whole family, from kite making to sand castle building, crafts and more. Catch the boat from 1 Long Wharf. For more information, visit bostonharborislands.org. 

3. Children’s films: On Mondays, come and watch children films at the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.). Call the library at 617-227-8135 to verify that this event has not been rescheduled or canceled.

4. Senior work-off deadline: Boston homeowners who are over the age of 60 may qualify for the Senior Citizen’s Property Tax Work-Off Program, which provides limited tax relief. For an application or more information, call Greg Josselyn at 617-635-4250. Deadline for applications is July 1.

5. Summer ballet: Boston Ballet School offers a variety of summer dance programs in July and August for ages three through adult. Call 617-456-6333 or visit www.bostonballet.org/school for more information.
