Finding a Home in the North End

Owner of Salem Street restaurant loves cooking for people in the community.

When Theo Cristo moved to this country from Brazil, he didn’t speak a word of English.

“I learned it here,” he said. “Working here (when it was Cozy Corner) was my first job.”

Theo is now the owner of “Theo’s Cozy Corner” located at 162 Salem Street.

The restaurant is definitely cozy. It’s also a spotless restaurant featuring Italian and Brazilian cuisine.

“I’ve owned this restaurant for about 16 years,” Theo said. “I worked here starting in 1989 as a dishwasher when it was just Cozy Corner.”

Theo arrived in the US over two decades ago.

“I came from Brazil with a friend in 1989 and lived in Somerville,” he said. “I was working here and the former owner decided to sell the restaurant so I bought it.”

The hours are Monday through Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Customers can dine there or buy take-out.

You can get breakfast, lunch and dinner at Theo’s Cozy Corner. The menu is extensive with ‘Theo’s Breakfast’ and “Italian Specials’.

“I cook everything and have a staff to help me,” Theo said. “I love the North End because nice people live here.”
