Here are events and news tips for what's happening in the neighborhood.

Learn about your laptop: The North End Library on Parmenter Street offers a one-hour course titled Introduction To Laptop For Beginners from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you want to attend, please bring a picture ID with your current address.

Book Discussion: Readers will gather at the North End Library on Parmenter Street from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for Wednesday Book Discussion. The selection is "Revere Beach Elegy," by Ronald Merullo.

Want to help your local branch? The Friends of the North End Branch Library will be meeting in the Parmenter Street branch from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Any one who is interested in volunteering help at the library is welcome to attend.

Meeting: North End Against Drugs will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nazzaro Center located at 30 North Bennet Street. Known as NEAD, the group was created in 1988 as part of a city-wide Boston Against Drugs campaign. NEAD is one of the few surviving chapters of the original group.

This Day in History: On October 10, 1957, the Milwaukee Braves defeated the New York Yankees to win their first World Series since 1914. No one expected it but the Braves had outfielder Hank Aaron and a pitching staff with Bob Buhl, Warren Spahn and Lew Burdette.
