Gun Owners Information, Facial Detection
Here are some of our favorite comments posted on North End Patch this week.

In an article written by Matt Perkins, he explained a publication in New York is under scrutiny for publishing the names and addresses of gun owners in certain parts of the state.
Matt asked readers if licensed gun owner’s information should be public.
Here’s how readers responded:

Ajax told us it’s a great way for criminals to know who is not armed and where they live.
Malu Mar disagreed and said such a list should not have been published. It provides study material for criminals and it puts non-gun owners in those areas at risk and compromises the privacy and safety from break-ins of those who are licensed to own guns.

Ann Merrit told us that the best thing is to identify the people who have been arrested, convicted, paroled, the exact crimes. Would you let your child play at the home of a convicted pedophile? I probably wouldn't, but I don't think we want to head down this path of publishing, highlighting everything about everyone. I don't like the publishing of info about law-abiding citizens. We have access to info on crimes committed from local police blotters.
Roberto Scalese reported that a new app uses facial detection technology to tell you how many men and women are at the club, and how old they are.
Roberto asked will this help you plan your Saturday night or is it a creepy tool for guys to stalk women?
Here are some of the responses we received:
Owen said: “Right, because all men want to do is get creepy and use high tech ways to "seek out and hit on women". Is that considered part of this whole "rape culture" movement or something? That's probably the dumbest reason to be against the use of this "technology". Lots of women go to clubs for the same reason men do, and they could use the app in the same "creepy" way.”
And Maura said “This whole idea is obnoxious, creepy, way too 1984ish for me. For everyone involved.”
