Joi Salon Fundraiser, North End Movie Night Set Wednesday

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Aug. 14 in the North End.

1. Mostly sunny: Wednesday, Aug. 14 will be mostly sunny with a high near 79 and a low around 57, according to the National Weather Service.

2. Home rule petition hearing: Boston City Council’s Committee on Government Operations will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. to discuss a proposed home rule petition that would return the authority to approve liquor licenses to the City of Boston. The meeting will be held in the Christopher A. Iannella Chamber on the fifth floor of Boston City Hall.

3. Salon benefit: Joi Salon (2 Atlantic Ave.) will hold their second annual “Joi of Summer” fundraiser for the Nazzaro Community Center on Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event will include light fare and cocktails, raffle items and special salon services. Call ahead for priority booking, 617-723-6330; there will be limited walk-in appointments available.

4. Biographies on film: On Wednesdays in August, drop by the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.) for a film series featuring biographical movies. On Aug. 14, watch “Houdini” (1953).

5. North End Movie Night: The North End Recovery Outreach Committee teen program and Regina Pizzeria are bringing back North End Movie Nights every Wednesday through August at DeFilippo Park on Prince Street.
