North End Pride Week Offers Ball Games, Family Fun Aug. 5-11

The 24th annual celebration is sponsored by North End Against Drugs, the Nazzaro Center and NSTAR, along with other sponsors.

North End Pride Week kicked off Monday and will continue through Saturday, Aug. 11 with free music and entertainment, sporting events, family activities and other fun for North End residents.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, celebrate National Night Out at the Paul Revere Mall on Hanover Street, where there will be free barbecue, arts and crafts and a demonstration by the MBTA Police K-9 unit, at around 6:45 p.m. The evening festivities will run from 6-9 p.m.

WEDNESDAY

On Wednesday, Aug. 7, ROC Teen Saturday will host the next in a series of movie nights with a free showing of “Grease” at 7 p.m. at DeFilippo Playground on Prince Street.

Also Wednesday, head over to Puopolo Park on Commercial Street from 7-9 p.m. for the 10th annual NEAA Oldtimers Softball All-Star Game.

THURSDAY

On Thursday, Aug. 8, North End Waterfront Health and North End Against Drugs will host the North End Jamboree from 2-4 p.m. at Polcari Playground between Prince and North Bennet streets. The event will feature a poster contest, a play performed by the Improbable Players and music by the Nazzaro Center Band.

Also on Thursday, State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz will host a concert and pizza party for North End seniors at the Nazzaro Center, 30 N. Bennet St. Al Natale’s Big Band Orchestra will perform.

And North End Women’s Softball will host an all-star game at Langone Park on Commercial Street at 7:30 p.m.

FRIDAY

District 1 City Councilor Sal LaMattina is sponsoring a puppet show on Friday, Aug. 9 at 11 a.m. at the North End Branch Library, 25 Parmenter St. Kids of all ages are welcome to attend.

In the evening, from 6:15-8:15 p.m. magician Peter O’Malley will perform at the Paul Revere Mall on Hanover Street, sponsored by the North End Music and Performing Arts Center and NEAD as part of the My Summer in the City program.

SATURDAY

On Saturday afternoon, check out the annual Little League Family Game at Langone Park, featuring parents against kids. The game will start at 1 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the North End All-Stars will face off against North Adams in Game 1 of 23rd annual LaFesta Baseball Tournament at Puopolo Park.

SUNDAY

The week’s festivities will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 11 with North End Family Pride Day at Langone Park on Commercial Street, featuring face painting, balloon art, a petting zoo, information from local organizations and a schedule of events, including:

  • 10 a.m. 23rd Annual LaFesta Baseball Tournament, Game 2
  • 12 p.m. Johnny Paolo Memorial Bocce Tournament (registration fee $5)
  • 12-2:45 p.m. Art contest for all ages
  • 12:15 p.m. Crosstown performance
  • 1 p.m. Street magic
  • 2-4 p.m. Nazarro Center Kids Talent Show

The 24th annual North End Family Pride Week is being held in memory of “Bobby D” Decristoforo. All events are free.
