
Janet Gilardi, who has lived in the North End her entire life, said people in the community stick together to provide services to each other.
“We are a self sufficient community and always have been,” she said. “We do not run out of food and never did.”
Janet said there were a few problems but, on the whole, the North End did well.

“We did fine,” she said. “The plows didn't do all the streets,
mainly Hanover and Commercial Streets. So What!”

“There was some of a mix up with the garbage and recycle pick-ups. So What!!”
Janet said, “No power outages, hardly ever does that happen.
Never lost phone service. Never did!”
Janet went on to say, “We walk in the street anyway. So what?”
“Some stores were still open. Some never close.”
Janet said, “We shoveled our own sidewalk. So what?”
“No one drove in; no one drove out. So what?”
Janet said it was very quiet and she loved it.
“Are things back to normal? Yes, fine. Good as ever!”
Janet said the elderly couldn't leave their homes.
“We took notice and saw to their needs like we always did. So what.”
“Did the two politicians call up some of their constituents on the phone to re-assure them they are around and would assist them in any way? Yes they did: Aaron Michlewitz and Sal LaMattina.”
Janet said, “This is why we live here in God’s country. It’s the best.”
“Years ago, this city would pick up the snow and
pile it into a few playground areas. The children loved it and the city was less disturbed with the huge mess for weeks and weeks.”
