Our Favorite Sports Stories of the Week

North End Patch sports writer, Gerry Stewart, fumes that the Pats' late season C game isn't going to get it done come playoff time.

The North End did not have much sports news this week.

However, Gerry Stewart, who writes 4th & Forever for our site, did send a story.Gerry is a Pats fan but was not terribly pleased with the last game.

He wrote that a “win is a win is a win” and he feels grateful that the Patriots eked out a barely competent win against the lowly Jaguars and moved on.

But Patriot fans, Stewart tells us, have become accustomed to so much more than feeling grateful or mere competence.

He was upset with missed assignments, poor blocking, sloppy route running and loose throws. And Stewart shuddered to think what would have happened against a better team than the Jaguars.

All day the Patriots were in a funk offensively, Stewart said.“They looked confused, playing as if they were strangers trying to make a connection in a crowded bar.”

Perhaps, this game will serve as a timely reminder for the Pats that simply showing up with their C game won’t get it done.

“There are no do-overs in this league,” Stewart said. He hopes that the sorry spectacle won’t soon be repeated.

If Stewart was a betting man, he’d wager Tom Brady and his coach will be growling all week and “lackadaisical” won’t be the word of the day come Sunday in the regular season’s finale against Miami.
