Savas Studios is a Hybrid Boutique

Sisters run a photography studio and shop on Hanover Street.

It's often fascinating to notice the relationship between siblings. Sometimes they fight or compete with each other.

Christine and Stephanie Savas run a business together.

Savas Studios, located at 456 Hanover Street is what Christine called "a hybrid boutique and photography studio."

"By day, we work the boutique designing some of our own clothes and, by appointment, we do everything from actors' head shots to childrens' portraits," said Christine. "We also provide make-up and hair services."

Christine's formal training in make-up artistry was at The Lia Schorr Institute in Manhattan.

Stephanie is a photographer who received her BA at Boston University in photo journalism.

The sisters sell clothing for women and men as well as jewelry, accessories and original art and photography.

Along a wall inside the boutique, there's often original art by local artists such as Adam Stanton.

"We advertise every so often for new artist submissions," said Stephanie. "We like to support our community."

Savos Studios also offers a "Girls Night" package for birthdays, bachelorette, graduation, reunions, engagement and divorce parties or any other special event; bridal make-up, beauty make-up for any occasion among many other services.

The hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from noon to 8:00 p.m.

The sisters explained that the hours, however, are subject to change from season to season.

Why the North End?

"We opened our boutique here because we fell in love with the neighborhood and it is an upcoming place for shopping, fashion and art," said Christine.

"We truly appreciate all the support we received from friends, family, residents and other business owners in the North End," Stephanie said. "We really did luck out by finding such a beautiful space in one of the top neighborhoods in Boston."

Christine and Stephanie grew up in Norwalk, CT.

They went their separate ways and now Stephanie lives on the South Shore and Christine lives in South Boston.
