Still Happy in the North End After All These Months

The North End community is more vibrant than originally anticipated.

Needless to say, I am a staff member for North End Patch.

In September, I introduced myself to you all as the assistant editor.

I recall explaining in that article how excited I was to be here and that I looked forward to learning about as many residents and businesses as possible.

Now, it is a little over two months that I have been in your community. And the neighborhood has proved more interesting than I knew on September 4.

I have been lucky to meet fascinating people such as Aaron Michelwitz (on my very first day) as well as Janet Gilardi, Amy Hand, Jerry Maffeo at Martini’s, Jeanne Dasaro who is the founder of North End Stories and Dom Campochiaro – just to name a few.

At Patch, we do not have offices. Rather, we find places in the community – a coffee shop, the library – to work.

My “office” has been in several places but I must confess to having a few favorites. Caffe Dello Sport, Café Paradiso and the North End Library have been better than any newsroom where I have had a desk over the years.

Although I am not an athlete these days, I love covering sports. Being at the ceremony when Tony DeMarco unveiled his statue was a joy for me to attend.

And several business owners have helped me find clothes, wine, and coffee for friends, family and myself.

Most recently, Alison Barnard walked me through the process of how to find jeans that fit, hide flaws and make a woman feel like a million bucks.

Elaine from Heart & Sole showed me so many beautiful pocketbooks, jewelry and accessories that I chose her boutique to buy my niece a belated birthday and early holiday present.

As for civic responsibility, the North End was praised by the mayor’s office during Hurricane Sandy.

And when politics was on our minds, it was thrilling to see Scott Brown step off the bus in the North End. Elizabeth Warren – who votes where I do – and Brown had a very close race as you well remember.

Patch employees firmly believe we are partners with you – our readers and community members.

So let’s keep our conversation going.

Please get in touch with me if you know of a person who lives or works in the North End for our ‘Meet Your Neighbor’ series. Tell me if I should know about a business that has not yet been profiled.

You can always reach me by writing to Susan.danseyar@patch.com.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you. Together, we will shout from the rooftops about the delights of living and working in the North End.
