After an eight year hiatus, the Tall Ships plan a return to Boston in 2017.
The stop will be the only stop in the United States that year, according to Boston Mayor Marty Walsh. Other stops will include Quebec City and Bermuda.

The ships were last in Boston in 2009. The dates will be June 17-22, 2017.
The announcement was made earlier this month by Walsh during a press conference at Long Wharf in Boston.

“The city of Boston is looking forward to hosting this maritime event that will feature a Parade of Sail, the first in our harbor in 17 years, and serve to showcase Boston as a highly hospitable and desirable international destination,” Walsh said in the announcement.
It will be the fourth “Sail Boston” event in 25 years, with previous events also in 1992 and 2000. An estimated 18 million visitors are expected at the 2017 event.
More than 50 ships are expected and will be able to be viewed along the Charlestown, East Boston and South Boston waterfront.
