Going On Vacation? Pick Up A Book First!

Heading out on spring break or summer vacation this year? Think about taking a book along for the ride.

Whether you choose to read by Kindle light or the "old fashioned" way with paper and binding, books are a staple for many of us during vacation.

With schools on spring break this week, it's the perfect time to pick up a new book and get reading.

Publishers Weekly is already looking ahead to the summer, and who says you can't too? You can pick up one of one of these books for this week's vacation, or make a note to pick up the others for summer vacation.

Here's a peek at just some of the books on the Publisher's Weekly Best Books of Summer 2014 List:

The Black-Eyed Blonde: A Philip Marlowe Novel by Benjamin Black — Raymond Chandler is no longer with us, but his estate has chosen Benjamin Black to carry on the Philip Marlowe story. Revisit 1950s California and enjoy the return of the iconic private investigator. You can start this book on your Spring Break, it's already out!

Sing in the Morning, Cry at Night by Barbara J. Taylor — Set in Scranton, this book tells the story of Violet, an eight-year-old girl who is blamed for the untimely death of her nine-year-old sister. And how the little girl refuses to behave the way everyone thinks she should after the tragic death. Based on a true story from the author's family. We have to wait until July for this one, but doesn't it sound interesting? Pre-order if you like!

Carsick: John Waters Hitchhikes Across America — Go figure. A Hollywood icon actually hitchhikes across America. And then writes a book about it. Publishers Weekly says it works. This one will be out in June, just a short wait away.

These are just three of the PW summer reads, but there are plenty more at PW's site. Go check out what you can, then pick one up today in your preferred format!

Let me know in the comments if you wind up reading any of them and what you think!
