Jones, Tarr Secure $50K For North Reading Road Safety Initiative

House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading) and Senate Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr (R-Gloucester) have secured $50,000 in the Fiscal Year 2021 state budget to assist North Reading in its efforts to improve public safety at some of the town’s most dangerous intersections.

North Reading Police Chief Michael Murphy has been working closely with Town Administrator Michael Gilleberto and the Department of Public Works to identify local intersections that are at high risk for motor vehicle crashes. Town officials plan to use the state funding to begin the analysis and work necessary to develop safety improvements for these intersections.

“This money will allow North Reading to identify potential fixes that can be implemented at these intersections to enhance public safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” said Representative Jones. “North Reading is committed to upgrading its most high-risk intersections, and Senator Tarr and I are happy to support this community-wide effort by delivering state funding assistance to help the town achieve this goal.”

“North Reading officials have worked for a number of years to make important improvements to intersections in town and I am glad that the partnership that Representative Jones and I have with them has helped to yield this new round of funds,” said Senator Tarr.
