UPDATED: Historical Society Talk Has Been Postponed

Don Doyle will offer a glimpse into the experiences of travel in North Reading in the 18th and 19th centuries.

As part of its Our Town Lecture Series, the North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society will host a talk “Everyday Life on the Byways and in the Taverns” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 in the the Flint Memorial Library’s Meeting Room, which is on the lower level.

North Reading Historical and Antiquarian Society board member Don Doyle, who is also a popular artist in town, will offer a glimpse into the experiences of travel in North Reading between the American Revolution to the arrival of the Salem and Lowell Railroad in North Reading in 1850.

Using the Damon Tavern as its center, the talk will discuss stage taverns, stage coaches and the roads in and around North Reading going back to the Bay Colony days.

Refreshments will follow the free talk.
